GETTING READY FOR 2009
PAST EVENTS:
IMI successfully finished the 17th Annual Tamale Festival, December 6th and 7th. The Festival drew a crowd of 110,000 attendees. It opened on Saturday morning at 10am with their annual parade starting on Miles Ave. to Oasis St. to Wilson St.
There were nearly 70 tamale vendors, who sold an array of tamale flavors; from beef, chicken, strawberry, feta cheese, cactus, chocolate raspberry, pineapple, turkey with stuffing. Other vendors were there selling Souvenirs such as Tamale Festival gear. There was also strawberry lemonade to the beer gardens and many other eateries.
Once again IMI provided Shuttle service to persons of disABILITIES and to our respected seniors. With so much to look at in two days of program fun filled days. Both admission and parking was FREE.
Carnival rides entertained many children. Other types of entertainment performed, such as Mariachi, Juggling, and Ballet Folklorico Cultural.
Once again BIG Willy catered to the VIPs where many prominent members in our community could come together and have a great meal.
At the GUEST SERVICES INFO booth, programs were handed out, while event questions were being answered.
One visitor from out of town complimented, how impressed she was with this festival because of so much seating.
Do not miss the International Tamale Festival next year December 5th & 6th 2009.
GAIN Ladies
Besides our ROP program, we started helping ladies from the GAIN program run by the Riverside County. These ladies are to work their community hours, so they can get off of subsistence income. They are demonsrating their skills for work. One of the most important skills is TIME! DO NOT be late to work! If so, call in! Appearance on the job, taking orders from a higher authority, and attitude are other important skills to practice! All the ladies are doing very well, and IMI is happy they are with us. You may see many of their shining faces when you approach the Lobby Desk, where they are honing in on their phone and customer service skills. Please meet and greet these Ladies whom are very willing and very competent workers!
For these Ladies, it is a BIG deal, not an Ordeal, for providing for their future.
LOOKING AHEAD
IMI is now looking forward to The Riverside County Fair National Date Festival. IMI will be in the Taj Mahal building once again as Guest Services. Please stop by and say hello. The Festival will start on February 13-22. Ten fun and very exciting days! Here we shuttle persons with disabilities and seniors attending the Fair.
Admission this year is: $7.00Advance/ $8.00 at Gate Parking: $7.00

There are so many buildings within the fairgrounds which are very interesting, including the Fine Arts, Gems and Minerals, and to the many stages where there are performances scheduled each day with something going on all the time; according to the FREE PROGRAM you may receive at our Guest Services, and also the entrances. We will be more than happy to show you how to get to one area to another, in a timely manner.
We are still looking for happy volunteers to help. You may be helping at our booth, and or passing out programs for the people attending. There are endless tasks we need help with each day. With every four hour you will receive a meal ticket which can be traded for a meal, at designated food booths. You cannot beat delicious Fair food, at least once a year. For the kids, they cannot resist all the carnival rides.
DO NOT miss out on the camel races, dancing bears, stock car show, and all the other interesting shows at the Aladdin Stage, where at night there are many BIG and Famous Artists perform. According to the schedule this year, there will be headliners are exciting line-up, including John Michael Montgomery, Loverboy, Gin Blossoms, El Coyote y Su Banda, Super Fiesta with Banda Pachuco & Rosenda Bernal, Tributes to Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Elvis plus many others.

Please contact Dolores Rodriguez at 760-863-2609. Please come out and help your community in Indio for ten FUN filled days! We also need SAFE drivers over the ten days to shuttle attendees back and forth on the fairgrounds.

REMEMBERING 2008, LOOKING TOWARDS 2009
We conquered many projects last year and are still battling through some! We are determined to see our Community barrier free to for everyone; in everyday aspect of their lives, from living to working, and also most importantly traveling to one place to another; whether that be by sidewalk, plane, bus, or by car.
With new computers and NEW email address we are so excited to start 2009 with huge Smiles.
IMI Team led by Mr. Jim Collins, a Telisman award winner, cannot go wrong in 2009.
IMI is also looking forward in meeting new people at all of our events throughout the year.
We can always use new helping hands. So, come join us and have FUN!
As you may know we are a non-profit organization, and do what we can for persons with disABILITIES also for our respected seniors who actually built this Valley.
We also wish everyone a very Happy holidays! To you and yours a prosperous, happy, and most importantly a healthy 2009.
